Our eldest, now in second grade, is turning into a bookworm. I am so proud. She has been a good reader for quite some time now, but liked to get through it as fast as she could. This caused some words to be guessed at, some letter to be switched and some words (or paragraphs if she thought she could get away with it) to be skipped.
Recently, however, her grandmother has ignited that spark of reading that I pray will last her eternity. (Yes I do believe there will be GREAT books in heaven.) It started when grandma called her and started reading every other page of a Junie B. Jones Valentine's book. They finished in no time!
Not only did this reading enjoyable for the girl, it gives her special time with her grandma that she looks forward to every time the telephone rings. She now has multiple books that she is "going to read with grandma." She has even read on or two on her own! Next stop, infinity and beyond!!
