Mud Room Make-Over

There come a time in the course of every room that I must give said room a face lift, nothing major, just a little nip here and tuck there, maybe a little injection for good measure.
This time it was my laundry room/ mud room.  I have been planning this make-over for quite some time. All I needed was a little and motivation.  Finishing my sofa slipcover was the motivation I needed.
I first needed to properly purge and reorganize the room.  Then consolidate and thoroughly clean what was left.
I dug out the fabric I purchased for curtains and set to measuring, cutting, and sewing the hems and rod pockets.  That was much less time consuming that anticipated, only a couple of hours.
My second fabric project was the canvas covers.  I have seen this ideas in many places online and in magazines.
It involves taking a painters canvas, some fabric, and a trusty staple gun.  I cannot express strongly enough the importance of a TRUSTY staple gun.
Mine gave out, two-thirds of the way through the second canvas and I ended up finishing the frames with upholstery tacks and an upholstery hammer.  It worked better than I thought.  I guess necessity really is the mother of invention.
As you can see in these two photos, I also infused some flair into the good ol' washer and dryer.  I didn't want them to feel bad.  Yes, Yes I do personify my appliances (as well as shoes, linens, toys, and sometimes utensils).
I decided on a provincial theme for the room so the hollyhock and bird silhouettes seemed perfect.  I had originally planned to stencil the art onto the machines with some appliance paint and painters tape, but opted for wall decals instead.  I am sooooooo glad I did.  They worked great and took a micro-fraction of the time.
All in all I am quite pleased with the room.  I am more motivated to keep it looking nice and keep up on the laundry now too.  I'm sure the room is happier now that I visit more often. And I know it likes the way it looks with it's "new face." (Did I forget to mention that I also personify the rooms in my house too?)

Great work! I love the fabrics you chose. And the fabric covered canvas is such a good idea! I pinned it. :)

Thank you. You inspired the toile selection. I am truly honored that you pinned me. That is my first "pinning." I'm glad it was you.
