State Fair

Every year, during the first week of August, the State Fair comes to our town.  In recent years I could have missed the fair and not cared a bit.  Our eldest daughters are at the age where it is just getting exciting and, to be honest, their excitement rubbed off on me this year.
I love rides, but I have begun getting motion sick more and more frequently these days.  So on our way to our day at the fair, we stopped at the store and bought some "magic pills."  I rode with the girls to my hearts content and my stomach did not interfere!
"The Sizzler" was by far the favorite this year, both by the kids and adults in our group.
The kids watched the operator wash out the evidence of someone who forgot their "magic pills."
She had to ride the "pink effalent."  Yes, this was the one she called pink.  She refused the real pink one.
This was another favorite.  It went forward and then backward.  I watched, unsure how powerful my "magic pills" were.
One of the booths had an active hive of honey bees.  The girls and I picked out little flavored honey sticks.  For anyone else who loves black licorice as much as me, don't get the black licorice flavored honey.  The flavors do not play well together.
The girls were each allowed one frivolous treat.
They both chose face painting.
Behold "Butterfly Girl"
And "Blue Dove."

The two favorite rides again.
I love the grassy knoll and the birch trunk contrasted with the girls colors.
The baby insisted on being a ham this evening.
Until I told them to make funny faces, of course.
The flowers this year have had such vibrant colors. I had to take their picture in front of this bed.
My three stoogettes.
"BAAAAAA!!"  "Mommy! I baaa the goat!!" (Yes, it is really a sheep. At least she got the sound right.)
Notice the shirt over her nose.  The pigs were right behind her.  They were pretty rank, I have to agree.  It was the end of the day and the 4H kids were just starting evening chores (cleaning the pens).
The exit was right next to the horse stalls.  So the girls had to tell them, "Goodbye," before we ended our day at the fair.
