On morning, as I was driving my eldest daughter to school, I was immensely surprised to see (an nearly hit) a chair sticking out of a snow bank partially into the lane of traffic. I took as close a look as was possible at highway speed and noticed that it was still intact and seemed rather pretty.
Being a scavenger at heart, I prayed (Seriously, I asked my heavenly Father who loves even my scavenging.) that it would still be there and intact when I returned from depositing my daughter. As you can see, He said, "YES," this time. Yayyyyy!
I darted through a lull in the morning traffic, grabbed the chair and quickly put it in the back of my vehicle. After arriving home and taking care of my other responsibilities, I took the chair out and began inspecting the damage to see if it was even worth salvaging.
Now I must put out a disclaimer. I am NOT a wood worker by any stretch of the imagination. Thankfully I know a couple of people who are quite proficient in that department. So I took some photographs of the full chair and close-ups of the major damage areas. I sent them to my father who has had experience with this sort of project.
He said he would need to look at the chair up close to get a better idea of exactly what he was getting into. Upon examination, it was determined that the rear legs, which are also the sides of the upper back needed to be replaced. I asked if it would be possible to do this in my dad's shop and he said it would take some time and careful work, but yes it would be possible.
The first thing I needed to do was find out if there was any way to get the wood pieces I would need to fix the chair. I called around to most of the prominent hardwood distributors in the areas, but to no avail. None of them had the size board I needed. Now here I should have asked my Heavenly Father for help again, but no I plunged on by myself instead. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. I looked on the internet for quite some time without any success before finally asked Him for some help with the situation. He really does care about even the most trivial, non-eternal parts of our lives. It was not long before I found a number for a local hardwood distributor who had a small family business up in the hills. I contacted him and guess what! He had exactly what I needed! I will be getting the board some time this week.
More to come . . . . . .
